dreamy dream

Idk what I think about this whole ~Dreamwidth~ thing...I hadn't heard about it at all until this morning, although apparently in the "right circles" it's been being discussed for a while. If I was able to sign up for an account and poke around, I'd probably have a stronger opinion, but...not yet, anyway. The whole thing pings me kind of funny. Whatev...I don't anticipate moving, though I might once I give the system a whirl, who knows? Maybe I'm just not a wild new frontier kind of person; I'm not unhappy with eljay, in any case. A lot of the features sound neat, but right now, it's not even an option for me. I'll probably dick around with it when they open up accounts, but I have no interest in going back to 6 (or for that matter, 75) userpics (I AM SO SHALLOW, I KNOW) at any point in the forseeable future. Maybe I'll back shit up there? Or put fic there, since it has larger limits. IDK, all will be revealed in the launch I guess? Unless someone wants to shoot me an invite code, but I'm sure most people don't want to waste them on a cranky old cynic like me XD

You can go through stuff via your OpenID, which you don't have to sign up for because you already have an lj, just sign into the OpenID option with your lj name, and you can set up a reading list of your friends that are moving there, see if you like the place, etc. To get an account you can post to there you either need to get an invite code from someone already over there, or buy a paid account when they open to the public on (I think) April 30.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm in the OpenID, but without posting/importing I have no real idea of how the system works, and I'm definitely not paying for an account of something I don't really understand. If invite codes come my way, I'll probably test it out, but I wouldn't want to use a code before someone who's actually passionate/really wants to switch when I don't intend to

Oh, Jen. We should taaaaaaalk again sometime when I'm not being a cranky, depressed hermit. :|

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I agreeeeee ♥ Let me know when you're out of your hermitage!

[identity profile] thelemic.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really feel like moving either, tbh. I mean. I have a shiny paid account and LJ has not fucked me over royally or anything and everyone is heeeeere

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeahhh, idk, I remember when everything was all LJ IS DYING BRB GOING TO INSANEJOURNAL except...no one did. I like my paid account, and I don't rly have any issues with the site (except having to pay to get rid of ugly ads, but I'd do it anyway for the icons XD)

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I feel very 'eh' about it. I mean, I have an insanejournal, which I don't have to pay for and has way more than 6 userpics if my head eventually explodes for lack of icons here. I think I'll be okay without a Dreamwidth account unless, like, ALL OF FANDOM MIGRATES.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, I'm a paid diva with LOTS OF USERPICS EEEHEEE Most of the people who are migrating seem to intend to doublepost for the most part? So, whatev whatev

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
BICH AH CUCHOO.

Yeah, I guess I just don't see the point? But, hey, if someone wants to give me an invite code so I can have a status symbol too, I am THERE. ROTFL

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Lol yeah, it makes me sound like a bitch, but the whole ~invite code~ thing, while sensible? Just smacks of elitism to me, especially with all the talk about how we need the BNFs~ to switch over. idk man

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
UM, YES. Exactly. It's like..."And it's different from Livejournal...because you pay for it. And only the cool kids can get in. Huh."

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
ALSO the whole "It's something I can believe in" thing kind of bugs me. Maybe I'm just a cynic but...why do I have to ~*~*~believe~*~*~* in my blogging site?

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I hadn't heard that. Why can't you believe in a site that's not for pay? :?

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's more the "it's former lj staff thinking about what lj ~could~ be, blah blah, no ads, blah, user friendly, blah" Idk, lj has always been pretty user friendly for me

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, gotta say. I think the icons are absurdly low for non-paying people who don't want ads in their journals (read:me) but other than that I don't mind it.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's always stuff that could be improved, but...Dreamwidth is only offering free users 6 icons. Soooo, no real change, yeah?

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
...oh yeah, so staying where I am. ROTFL. Again, unless I actually find an incentive to leave. So far? Not convinced.

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT. YOU ARE THE ANTI DREAMWIDTH.

666 IS THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
:O

GODDAMNIT, HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS A MINION OF SATAN OUT TO DISSUADE SINFUL LJERS FROM THE LIGHT OF DREAMWIDTH?

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
IT'S A LITTLE KNOWN FACT THAT I AM AN ORDAINED MEMBER OF THE PRIESTHOOD, DON'T YOU KNOW.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
O SNAP

AND NO, I DIDN'T KNOW, IT'S LITTLE KNOWN

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
THAT WOULD EXPLAIN IT, I SUPPOSE. INDUBITABLY.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
HEY, YOU CAN'T JUST THROW INDUBITABLY OUT THERE AND PRETEND EVERYTHING'S PEACHY

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh, userpics. I am jealous of you, paid account person lady. D:<

but, I have not heard of this ~dreamwidth thing either. It looks interesting. i dunno, i like lj. I have it mostly figured out, and everything is here and.... i don't like change much. /o\

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Saaaaame. I'm like...I like it here, I'm settled here, don't wanna move :(

[identity profile] analogized.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, it's kind of tempting? But I have severe doubts about how possible it is for fandom to migrate to another place, anyway, so. Staying, for the foreseeable future! Unless, you know, fandom in it's entirity does move. Which is unlikely.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think fandom as a whole is going anywhere, and I certainly wouldn't leave until my paid account time here runs out :P

[identity profile] fleurdeliser.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have an account over there. Dunno what I'm gonna do with it. I think it'll be a wait and see kind of thing.

[identity profile] mwestbelle.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I poked around a bit with OpenID...idk idk, I probably wouldn't move unless there was a mass exodus, I'm a total stick in the mud :P

[identity profile] anothersadsong.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
i ... have no idea about this dreamwidth thing? if it's another journal site, well, i have an insanejournal, a vox, and whatever that other one was, and i don't plan on leaving lj, anyway.
