I LOST MY CONCERT VIRGINITY! AND IT WAS GOOOOOD :DDDDDD

House of Heroes, This Providence, LUDO and Relient K

Ellen and I left campus around 4:45. I wore my "Pluto: Revolve in Peace" shirt because I'm HIP LIKE THAT. We were armed with GoogleMaps, cameras, and soon added Jimmy Johns to our supplies (we checked the air pressure in her tires! It was so exciting!). Of course, GoogleMaps, which seems to think we should drive through the giant new science center, got us as far as Madtown when it decided we should take an exit that doesn't exist. We stopped at a gas station to ask for directions to Washington Ave, got back in the car, started off...and realize neither of us had been paying attention. We went as far as we remembered, then stopped at another gas station, where we got actual directions to the theatre. Drove past, went through a neighborhood to find a parking spot, and LO! Empty United Way lot mere feet from the theatre! I considered hiding my camera in my bra, but the website didn't say I couldn't have it, so I just brought it in and no one stopped me \o/

The Barrymore is a former porn theatre, and it was actually neat--little lobby with bar and merch and some wacky carvings. The rest of it was pretty much like a normal movie theatre, but with the seats set farther back so there's a decent sized floor in front of the stage. There's a balcony too, but that wasn't open.

Now...Ellen and I were pretty much the oldest people there who weren't there without their own child. SERIOUSLY. I mean, I knew that Relient K had a pretty young fanbase? But--it was high schoolers with a healthy helping of middle schoolers. They were kind of ridiculous. (Ellen's judgment: "Jenny, you and I have bigger boobs than everyone else here combined.") They were all tiny and bratty, which was kind of hilarious when they tried to mosh--seriously. You come up to my shoulder. You can't shove me.

House of Heroes was up first...they're from Columbus? Apparently? They were pretty good...I really liked a couple of their songs and they were kinda pretty :P Three of the dudes sang, which was pretty cool. They had some harmony going on with the lead singer/guitarist and the bassist (?) And from them we learned that this was the first show of the tour \o/

This Providence was next--they seemed a little more well-known. I saw a couple girls with their t-shirts on, and it seemed like a few people knew the songs. The singer for this one was a lot more interactive--he leaned over the crowd, grabbed a lot of screaming girl's hands. One chick grabbed for his scarf which, um, okay, dangerous much? Ellen was madly in love with their bassist (who looked a bit jailbaity himself. You could see his nipples through his shirt, btw)

And theeeeeen it was time for the MAIN EVENT (for me and Ellen, at least). So I was kind of embarrassingly excited and Ellen and I lay wait while they were soundchecking, and then when a few of the middleschoolers tried to mosh some more (which mostly consisted of this one group of kids shoving at our side of the crowd, and we annoyed people shoving themj back) we scooted up. We were pretty close the whole time, and the stage was low (as you can see) but...LUDO

Tunin' up.

Now, I think I scared a good number of the kids in front of me? Because, um. Screaming. And singing. I knew pretty much all the words and I SANG THEM GODDAMMIT! The bassist (Marshall) wasn't able to be there, so they had a friend of theirs from a Chicago band (whose named I missed ;__;) playing with them.

Tim, who plays moog. Seriously, how fucking awesome a name for an instrument is that? Mooooooooog. He apologized to the people in the front for eating chips before coming on stage and spraying them with chip bits when he was singing. To which, of course, the crowd screamed and Andrew was all "This is Madison, they're into that here."

Stupid buckethat douche...I think he was some chick's dad? Who went into the pit with her? Wtf?

Return of the revenge of buckethat douche!

I do notice that most of my pics are of Andrew and that's because...uh. I would hit that short, slightly cross-eyed, doof-face SO FUCKING HARD. ♥___♥ They were seriously amazingly entertaining. I don't remember the exact setlist, but they opened with Go-Getter Greg (one of my faaaaaavorites) and he was HILARIOUS. They played Hum Along and Topeka. They played Broken Bride (!!!!) and Andrew was all "If you haven't seen us in concert before, you might not expect this next song, which is about a guy whose wife dies in a drunk driving accident and then he builds a time machine so he can go back in time to save her life but gets stuck in the Jurassic period and there's pterodactyls attacking him and...maybe you shouldn't expect it." And, uh, Good Will Hunting, and when they played Lake Ponchartrain, he was like "This song is about when you go on vacation and all of your friends get eaten by this horrible lake monster thing." They closed with Love Me Dead, and had the crowd sing the first verse \o/ There was weird can-can walking with the guitars and. It was amaaaaaaaazing~~~~

Relient K was finally up then and...Ellen and I didn't really care about them XD So we went out to the lobby to get merch and hopefully get Ludo guys to sign our shit. The guys from House of Heroes and This Providence were loitering around, and I went and...spent every dollar I had on Ludo merch. I got a shirt (which I'm wearing right now :D) and a tote bag and a set of pins. We stood around waiting for Ludo and...we hear that they're not coming out until after Relient K is over :|

But Ellen and I really wanted stuff signed, so we stood around in the lobby, and I tried to convince her to get the bassist she was so fond of to take a picture with her but she wouldn't ask him. We went back into the auditorium and sat in the back watching Relient K from afar~

When that got boring we went back out to the lobby to loiter there, and when bassistguy (whose name, we learned, is David) came back out again, I prodded her into getting her picture taken with him.

And we waited. And waited some more. And then! I saw Replacement!Bassist (I wish I could remember his name, because he had a bitching Batman backpack, and did a cute little thing getting graded on the chords he was playing when he was up with Ludo) and kept my eyes peeeeeeled. There were a few other groups of people waiting--a guy and his mom, two young girls, a group of three people, the worst groupies I've ever seen in my life, and this insane Ludo family (mom and dad in "Official Ludo Ninja" t-shirts, and three daughters, two of whom were wearing Ludo hoodies). And lo and behold, in came Matt the Drummerboy! CUTIE. And then Andrew (♥♥)! My camera was epically dying (which it's not now, bitchy little hypochondriac), so Ellen sprinted out to her car to get hers while I sat starry-eyed. When she came back, I was planning to make my move on Matt...I waited while he chatted with some other people, and I noticed he didn't have a sharpie, so I sidled up and did my cute face and was all "I really wanted you to sign my bag, but I don't have a sharpie" and he went and got one from the merch girl and he siiiigned my baaaaag and Ellen and I got our picture taken with him :D

The Ludo family was chatting it up with Andrew so I hung around there until he noticed me and I asked him to sign my bag too and he was all "I'd be happy to, not only because you're lovely, but because markers work great on canvas!" and Ellen & I got our picture with him too and omg, I spent the rest of my LIFE going "...he called me lovely eeeeheeeee"

And then we tried to get home, went the wrong way down a one-way street and got lost in a roundabout but ALL IN ALL it was AMAZING and srsly, keep me away from concerts. I'm sitting there going "Omg why am I in college, I want to be a merch giiiiirl and travel the nation and sell shiiiiiit ;____;" which I know is stupid. But. IDK, maybe once I graduate I'll see what happens...I could always take a summer to fuck around before work sets in. Also, it turns out that I'm not asexual, I'm bandsexual. All of my complete and utter distaste for sex? (which I don't think I've actually talked about in public, so. Yeah.) It disappears when there's a guy in a band in front of me. I think I have a problem. I don't wanna be a groupie ;__; But I doooooo

Fuck, I want to go to the Milwaukee show on Sunday ;____;
