Last night was the most INTENSE Monopoly game of my ENTIRE LIFE. FIVE HOURS. SHOUTING, SUICIDE, STRIPPERS AND TROPHY BOYS WIVES. It was awesome. A++, would play again.

Unfortunately, I was sitting half on a matress on the floor, so my lower back and tailbone are KILLING ME NOW, plus I had ballroom dance this morning, with rumba and HIP ACTION OW. But now I'm back in my room, and it's time for...more picspam! (Very Gerard-heavy)

"Um," Frank tries to look through the windows without being super obvious. It doesn't look like there are too many people in there, but there are also periodicals which may or may not have Gerard's photo splashed over them. "You want to wait out here, or will you draw more attention as the creepy lurker guy?"

"I'll stay back," Gerard says, because he wasn't exactly keen on going in in the first place. "Maybe back a ways so it doesn't look too weird." It's not a big town, and across from the Walgreens is a small but dense patch of woods, and he gestures to it. "Over there." He's not crazy about the idea of hiding out in the woods, but it's definitely safer than going in the building.

"Okay, I'll find you." He would be laughing at the idea of Gerard hiding out in the woods--so not an outdoorsy person--but it's serious, so he just makes a beeline for the haircare aisle.

It takes longer than he expected to find the dye he wants (all this "Color Revitalizing" and "Highlight Sculpting" shit, he just wants some goddamn bleach) and he just grabs a random pair of scissors--he's not exactly a trained stylist, so it's pretty much going to be chop and go.

The cashier tries to make small talk with him, and he feels a little bad for blowing her off, but mostly he just wants to get back to Gerard. He heads out across the parking lot, stopping at the small line of trees.

Gerard makes his way into the woods, stopping before he gets too far in because he's really not keen on the idea of getting lost, and leans heavily against a tree, trying to force himself not to be nervous (because it's only the woods, he keeps telling himself, but he can't see the ground very well and it's dark and for all he knows there could be needles in the dirt left by someone and he would never know and--).

He's relieved, then, to look up and see Frank making his way across the parking lot, and he picks his way past all the fallen branches (not needles) on the ground to make it back to him. "Did you get the stuff?" he asks, gesturing to the bag, and he's trying to figure out where they're going to do this, because they don't really have a hotel room anymore.

"Yeah, all set." He's strangely relieved to see Gerard emerging from the trees--he was only gone for a few minutes, but he couldn't quash the fear that the law was waiting to swoop in as soon as he looked the other way--and he holds up the bag with a small smile.

There really isn't anyway that they can do this without a real bathroom, so even though he wants to just sit in the dark somewhere, they don't have a lot of choices. "We need a room."

Gerard pauses, considering, and then nods. "Did you see one around?" There's only so long he can wander around with sunglasses on without seeming totally suspicious, but he hasn't seen any hotels around the area. They've got about an hour before the sun starts going down, and he wants to get somewhere relatively safe by then.

"Back by the bus station, I think." It's a seriously shitty motel, meant for travellers just too tired to actually go look for a place to stay. Unlikely to ask a lot of questions or pay very close attention--sounds like a perfect fit for them.

Frank pays for the room while Gerard pretends to survey bus schedules, and locks the door firmly behind them.

Gerard takes a deep breath, sitting down heavily on the bed and shrugging out of his coat and scarf. "Should we cut it first or after?" He's trimmed his own hair before but in this instance he's just going to have to trust Frank to do it because he doesn't think he quite has the coordination to make it look decent himself. He's glad, though, that they're in a locked room and the curtain on the window is shut. Safe--for now.

"First, I think. Don't want to waste time bleaching what we're going to cut." Frank carries the whole bag into the bathroom and dumps it out on the counter. He picks up the scissors and snips the air a little before turning to Gerard. "So, uh, any requests?" He's not going to be able to manage much more than a simple crop job, but hopefully it won't look awful--cutting hair can't be too much harder than cutting throats, can it?

Gerard shrugs, hoping that Frank at least will be able to make it even. That's all he can hope for at this point, since he's got pretty much no other option. "Not really," he says, biting his lip, teeth worrying at it. "Just like, try not to lop off my ear or something." He's pretty sure the scissors aren't quite sharp enough for that but it never hurts to be cautious.

"Do my best." Frank smiles a little, trying to be encouraging and starts cutting. He starts trimming in the back, figuring that will give him the widest margin for error. Glancing down at the dark hair accumulating on the floor, stark against once-white tile, he thinks that maybe they should have done this over the tub at least, but it's a little late now. He moves on, trying to cut in small increments to make it adjustable as he goes.

Gerard tries not to move too much (or even breathe too much) as Frank cuts, and it's strange to see the hair piling up on the floor around them. He hasn't cut his hair in what seems like years, isn't sure he can even quite remember what he looks like without black strands in his face.

Frank bites his lip in concentration and slides the scissors into his back pocket. He leans back, tilting Gerard's chin up to get a better look. It looks okay--it's obviously a homemade cut, but it doesn't look like it was homemade by a four year old which is good. "I guess it's bleaching time now." He pulls on the rubber gloves tucked in the pack and grins while he snaps one, hoping to lighten the mood a little.

"How weird do I look?" Gerard asks, hoping Frank isn't grinning because he's trying not to laugh at Gerard's newly-stupid haircut. On some level, it really doesn't matter, since it's for disguising him, but on another, well, okay, he doesn't want to look weird.

He fishes the instructions out of the box as Frank's putting on his gloves and glances over them--he's not really sure how he's going to kill a half hour, but that's apparently how long it's going to take.

"It's different. Not bad," he hurries to add because he knows that Gerard will take anything the worst way possible. "Just, it's short." He isn't the most unbiased, since he did the cutting and also thinks Gerard always looks amazing (even when he hasn't showered for three weeks). He grabs the bottle of bleach and peers over Gerard's shoulder at the instructions. "You might have to talk me through this man, I haven't bleached my hair in forever."

Gerard raises an eyebrow. "I've never done it," he points out, but the instructions are clear enough. "You just rub it in, I think." Maybe he's simplifying the instructions a little, but how hard can it be?

"Hope I don't burn your scalp off or anything." Frank unscrews the lid of the bottle and starts pouring and rubbing in what seem like sensible increments. Once he's gone over everything he rocks back on his heels, holding up his still-gloved hands. "Gotta let it sit, right?"

Gerard nods. "Yeah, for like a half hour." It's starting to burn, it stings, and he hopes that the half hour will go quickly, or that his hair will be light enough sooner. He tries not to wince but the tense non-expression on his face is as much a giveaway to the discomfort.

Frank peels off the gloves, careful to turn them inside out and not get dye on his fingers, and throws them in the wastebasket. He'd like to thumb over Gerard's lips, lighten up his expression, but he's not quite sure where he stands at the moment, so he just rests his hand on his shoulder, squeezing a little in support.

Gerard smiles up at him, face still pained. The time passes by, sluggish, and after what seems like a century Gerard finally says, "I think that's probably long enough."

"Cool. Rinse now, right?" He wasn't exactly sticking close to the rules when he bleached half of head a few years ago (and he suffered the headaches he deserved) but he still has the mighty power of logic on his side.

"Uh, yeah," Gerard says, and well, he's pretty sure that's what comes next, but he didn't really bother to check. He turns on the water in the tub, leaning down to stick his head under the faucet and rinse, and his head finally, finally stops burning so much. He's not really sure if he's supposed to scrub it or not, so he does, lightly.

It's really surreal, to see Gerard looking blond--it isn't as total a change as Frank was hoping for, and they might need do another application of dye later on (since Gerard's hair was so dark), but it's still shocking, especially when the color change is paired with the new shortness. "Whoa, man. Seriously, you need to check yourself out."

Gerard looks a little worried, and he turns, rushing over to the mirror. When he gets there, he just stops and stares. "Holy fuck," he manages, gaping. He looks--well, not completely different, but he almost doesn't recognise himself in the mirror.
