Last night was the most INTENSE Monopoly game of my ENTIRE LIFE. FIVE HOURS. SHOUTING, SUICIDE, STRIPPERS AND TROPHY BOYS WIVES. It was awesome. A++, would play again.

Unfortunately, I was sitting half on a matress on the floor, so my lower back and tailbone are KILLING ME NOW, plus I had ballroom dance this morning, with rumba and HIP ACTION OW. But now I'm back in my room, and it's time for...more picspam! (Very Gerard-heavy)

"We're going to go find the boys," Frank adjusts his glasses and glances at Gerard. He's doing a pretty good job of hiding it, but Frank can see the disapproval in his eyes. "Will you still be here?"

Ryland gives him a flat look that leaves no room to doubt how stupid Ryland thinks he is. Frank holds his hands up and grabs for Gerard's elbow to leave.

Gerard turns and leaves with him, not bothering to creep quietly out since, after all, they already know he's here.

Once outside of the warehouse, he looks around for the old factory, finally spotting it. It's far enough that it looks like it's part of a model city, made of plastic.

"C'mon." He points to it and hopes Frank can see it, what with the glasses and all.

The walk is long, and Gerard doesn't seem to be in a very talkative mood. Frank hates the silence, but can't think of anything to say that wouldn't just be an obvious attempt to start a conversation.

He reaches up and slides the glasses down a little further on his nose so he can look over them and get a better look at the line of buildings.

"Can you see it?" Gerard asks hesitantly, watching Frank adjust his glasses. He's never been in the old factory, never even really seen it, and he's going to have to point out to Frank at some point that it's going to be full of cramped spaces and probably spiders. Not that he wants to be the brave one, but Frank's going to notice whether he says anything or not.

"Think so." It's a difficult to pick much out--all the buildings around here are basically the same grayscale giants. Age and decay, two things he'd really rather avoid. He's not the type to keep body parts in his basement or anythng; the point at which things start becoming something dusted and wasted, he loses interest--there's no more spark, no more excitement. And on a less philosophical note, spiders. "Fuck, I hate these places."

"Sorry," Gerard offers, really not sure of what else to say. He's never been bothered by small spaces or spiders--considering his room when he was growing up, he's surprised the thought of a place full of them doesn't make him nostalgic.

By the time they get to the entrance of the factory, though, Gerard is having doubts of his own. It's creepy, and not in a good way; he likes horror movies, sure, but he's never really had the desire to be in one.

Frank bites his lip as they approach. It's stupid to be scared, he knows. There are so many more sensible things to be scared of (psycho killers, for example) but everyone's got to have something, and this is his. It's funny in the dark way, because no matter how scary he is, Gerard is a hundred times braver.

"Well." It's dark in there, windows so dusted over so it must be dark even when the sun is out. "I guess." Not even inside, and losing the ability to speak in full sentences. Not a good sign.

"Guess what?" Gerard glances over at him, and he's the one to step into the doorway first, because he knows Frank isn't the braver one right now.

"Let's just get this over with." He grits his teeth and looks in, letting his eyes get adjusted to the darkness.

When they step into the darkness, Frank wonders for one wild moment if Gerard would smack him (or laugh at him) if he asked to hold hands, then remembers that he needs his hands in case he has to stab any of the giant tarantulas that are probably lurking around in here.

His eyes adjust eventually, but it's horribly dark. He takes the glasses off and slip them into his pocket, but he still can't see much more than the hazy shapes of abandoned equipment. If the boys are here (please, let them be here) there are more hiding places than Frank can count. Factoring in the darkness (and probability of killer spiders), they've picked a great place.

Every step they take shakes up dust, and Gerard is walking carefully, but his footsteps are echoing on the cement floor. He's pretty sure he just heard a rat. Great.

He can barely see anything past his hands and the white clouds of his breath. How are we going to find them? He looks behind him at Frank, hoping he has a plan.

Frank's trying to remember how he thought it was a good idea to come back to Chicago and go traipsing around abandoned buildings looking for angry homeless kids without a flashlight. There's really no way he can think of to find them, and in the echoing dark, it's not like the boys don't know they're here. If the boys are here at all.

He's about to just give up and call something out when he hears more and faster footfalls behind them. He manages to get his hand into his pocket and wrapped around his knife before there's the blunt end of something pressed into his back and "What the fuck are you doing here?" hissed in his ear. Gerard, as far as he can guess from the startled little sound, is getting much the same by way of hospitality.

Gerard freezes; there's something pressing into his back as well, but the voice is eerily familiar.

"Brendon?" he manages, eyes wide. Since Frank hasn't moved to help him, he's guessing Spencer or Jon's found Frank.

He tries to breathe, heart beating lightning-fast.

There's a pause, too long of a pause, but then there's almost a squeak in Brendon's voice when he goes "Gerard? God, it's, hey, shit, hi Gerard. And, whoa, I guess you're Frank. Hi. Again."

The pressure disappears from both of their backs, and Frank never thought he would be so happy to hear Brendon's voice (seriously, the kid can get half a city block burning with like, a handful of toothpicks but somehow remains dorkier than any other kid Frank can remember). He was mostly expecting to be strung up by the ankles when they came upon the kids, but this is a welcome surprise. Apparently they don't suspect him, for once.

"Yeah. God, are you okay?" Gerard isn't sure he wants to mention that they're helping Pete out yet, isn't sure if they would react badly or not to that.

Brendon takes a sharp breath, and he's about to answer when the other voice breaks in with "Well, we are." It's Spencer's voice, and even if Gerard can't see him he knows Spencer's expression is pained. He knew Ryan better than the other two did, had known him since practically forever.

"That's why we're here." Frank always felt a little off-balance around the kids, and it's worse in the dark. He sees them, but not clearly, and it's uncomfortable.

Spencer makes a dark sound and Jon bumps against his shoulder. Even Brendon crinkles his nose, brows furrowing. "Pete called you."

What Brian told them was warning enough that Pete is a touchy subject, but lying doesn't seem like an option, so Frank opts for a neutral "Yeah. He seems worried."

"Sure." There's harsh bite in Spencer's voice. "Now he's worried, when it's too fucking late."

Spencer looks downright pissed and it's one thing to take Ryan's death hard, this is another thing entirely. Gerard has a feeling that even if the others don't know exactly what happened, Spencer does.

"I..." Gerard tries to think of a way to ask gently. "What happened?" He's not expecting much from the other two, isn't the least bit surprised when Brendon says brokenly, "We don't know."

So Gerard turns to Spencer, gaze fixed on him, waiting for an answer.

Spencer shrugs, stiff and jerky, Brendon and Jon watching him. It's too dark to tell, but from the way he's holding his shoulders, Frank is pretty sure Spencer is only tenuously holding back an outburst. "Pete took chances. Ryan paid for them."

That tells them basically nothing, but Frank knows that pushing them will just make them draw back further and faster, so he just says, "We want to help." hoping to inspire them to offer some more concrete information.

Spencer shrugs again. "It's a little late for that, unless you can find--" he stops himself, and it's fairly obvious that he has at least some idea of who did it. The other two stare at him, because they had no idea and Spencer hasn't told them.

"I wasn't there, but I was the one who found him," Jon offers, quietly, and Gerard wants to hug him close at that, but he can't see where he is well enough.

"Where was he?" The twist of Jon's head is sharp, and Frank assumes he's on the receiving end of one of the quietly dark looks Jon is so good at.

"Where do you think? An alley, under some boxes." There's a weariness in his voice, a resigned tone, like that's all a kid like Ryan could expect, to be stacked like another piece of cardboard. I thought Pete was helping these kids.

"I'm sorry," Gerard offers, because he doesn't really know what to say to that, and he hates the thought of it.

"There's someone," Spencer begins, hesitantly, "someone I think could have..." He's quick to add, "but I'm not sure."

"Who?" Brendon's speaking before Frank has the chance, sounding aghast. There's sudden tension in the room--Spencer obviously hasn't shared this information before. There's another pause before Spencer speaks.

"There's this guy. He used to run with us--"

"No way!" Brendon again, shocked. "Spencer, no."

"Who else?" Spencer's tone is hollow and resigned. "Ryan didn't have any money for someone to take and he didn't have anything, you know," he swallows "... done to him, and Brent hates him--us now. You know that."

Brendon shakes his head furiously, because he can't believe Brent would do something like this, even though when he left he cursed and spit and looked ready to claw them all apart.

Jon remains conspicuously silent.

"Who's Brent?" Gerard asks as gently as he can, and Spencer sighs a little--not defeated, but rough.

"It was always the four of us. He didn't," Spencer pauses, trying to find the right things to say, "he didn't feel it, the same way we did. Ryan and Bren and I, we were always in for each other. He never was, really."

"He tried," Brendon interjects, defensive.

Spencer continues, ignoring him. "Well, he became a liability. You can't afford to be sloppy. Not when you live like this. And we just couldn't afford to watch out for him when he wasn't looking after us. He was angry."

"He wouldn't, Spence," Brendon interrupts again, a little high-pitched, more like he's trying to convince himself than any of the others. "He didn't mean it."

"Brendon," Spencer begins quietly, "he would. He threatened to kill me, before he left. He said that he'd do fine on his own and that we'd all end up dead. And then he told me that he'd make sure I did. You don't remember that?"

Brendon shakes his head, and Jon just looks lost. He came to them after Brent had left, when he'd been on the street for almost a year with another group. But three of his gang had been arrested and he'd found himself practically alone, so he'd left.

Frank exchanges a look with Gerard. It definitely sounds like this Brent kid is the most obvious suspect. Frank's quietly grateful for the simple explanation, and that the presumed culprit is little more than another angry kid. He can deal with that, no problem.
